Anamorphosis Sketch





1. Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab. 
     After selecting an object to draw, I scaled and transformed a picture of a glass Perrier bottle in Photoshop.

2. How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer? 
     Transforming the image made it possible to appear as if it were coming off the page once drawn on a flat surface.

3. What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?
    Color and shading were the most important aspects when drawing this bottle.

Is It a Turkey?

SELF EVALUATION

 

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
       -Potentially an clean, visually interesting print, my scarlet ibis fell flat (quite literally). Clustered and busy, my print loses a sense of simplicity which is needed when creating subtle texture.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
      - Varying line width and length, I gauged the linoleum to add diversity and depth to my print. Adding texture and contrast helps to add visual clarity to a print, unfortunately my print has minimal contrast, losing the distinction between bird and background. 

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
     - For my print i wanted to show negative space through the use of a darker colored paint over a light background. The positive space in my print was gauged out, leaving only outlines and shapes.

4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted
     - I had plenty to gauge out, so my gauging ended up being a little sloppier than anticipated. Being a print making novice, my print was a little too ambitious for me, as is reflected in the final piece.

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
     -I was loosely able to achieve depth, there is a minor sense of foreground and middle ground, but not much. The bird does come in front of what is meant to be a tree, but behind the bird everything seems a bit lost and flat.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
     - Needless to say, I don't anticipate making printmaking a career for myself. I like to put a lot of smaller details in my art and during the printmaking process you really have to simplify your piece. I felt a constant struggle between how I wanted the print to look vs. how the print wanted to look.

 Chalk Mural Critique

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
     -When working with a team on an art project, each member must put forth effort. When the members are not in sync, the resulting art is going to be mediocre at best. Unfortunately, for this project, my group ran into this obsticle and as such the final project was effected.
2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
     - Collaboration is critical when working in a group project, and as such when the members d not collaborate or do not put forth effort, the art is going to suffer. 
     
3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
     -The general concept was finished, but unfortunately there is no depth resulting in a flat, uninteresting mural. 
4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school? 
     - I think generally speaking, I like the concept, unfortunately I don't think a work of art on this level is best for begining artist, so I feel the chalk murals could better be exocuted by an upper level art class.

1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
      -For this art project, we were asked to showcase our value skills by drawing one of our peers. After randomly selecting one student, I traced the different values from her picture and transferred the traced image into my sketchbook. Using the transferred values layout as a guide, I then added depth and demention into my portrait, compairing my drawing to the original photograph.

2. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait? 
      -As a prerequisite to this project, I created a simple value chart, making a gradient of nine values gradually developing in intensity from white to black. This value chart was then used in conjunction with the transferred shapes of values and the photograph of a peer, to select the appropriate level intensity.

3.  Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait?  How?
      -Ultimately my portrait had a full nine levels of values, so yes, i believe i was successful. As previously stated, I used a value chart to compare the levels of intensity from the original photograph to my drawing bearing the same face.

4. Describe your craftsmanship.  Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?
      -The final product of my hard work is a smooth, evenly executed portrait.

5. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.
     -Drawing a blonde subject, it was easy to creat a very monotone, drab picture, so I had to push the values to create a more interesting work of art.
Print Sketch Critique
1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
      -Texture adds dimension and intrest to a picture, without texture a sketch would appear flat and uninspired.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
     -Having sevral refferences for each sketch insures the most accurate animal portrayal and also it keeps an artist from copying anyone's work.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
      -Yes, it's easy to see which picture has the most texture and which will translate best to a print.
